Explore the intersection of art, sustainability, and cultural tradition in this unique project-based course. You'll learn to transform leftover watercolor paper scraps into beautiful, wearable anthurium forms, drawing inspiration from the traditional Hawaiian art of lauhala weaving. This course, guided by the principles of repurposing and honoring cultural practices, encourages you to explore new materials while engaging in a mindful artistic process. Discover how to give new life to your art supplies and create stunning, sustainable works of art.
I learned this intricate form through the generous guidance of the Puʻuhonua Society, who shared their profound knowledge of lauhala weaving and cultural practices. To honor their invaluable contribution and support their mission of empowering Native Hawaiian and Hawaiʻi-based artists to address social justice issues, a portion of the proceeds from this course will be donated back to the Puʻuhonua Society.
In this workshop, you will:
Learn fundamental techniques for transforming watercolor paper scraps into sculptural, wearable forms

All supplies will be included for the duration of the class. All artistic abilities are welcome, prior art experience is not required. Ages 16 and up welcome!
